I am looking for some good resources (books, videos) for teachers and administrators on the following subjects: ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, and Aspberger's Syndrome. I would welcome ideas of good books and/or videos with specific intervention ideas that other principals have found to be helpful. Thanks!

Kim,

I don't have a specific book, but if you ever have the opportunity to attend the "Learning and the Brain" Conference at Harvard and MIT either in the Fall or Spring. These are marvelous conferences conducted by specialists in every area of learning and learning disorders one can think about. Over the years I have attended two of them and they have been so helpful in many ways. Well worth the cost to your district.

Kim,

we have used the Wagner Center for Autism & Asperger Syn. resources. I'm thinking that they would probably have information on the other topics you are looking for too.

Here is the website - http://www.usd.edu/cd/info/wegner.cfm

Good luck….have a great weekend!

Both ASCD and NAESP have sources for these topics. Also check out the Master Teacher.

Kym,

Michelle Mehlberg sends out a veritable plethora of great stuff that she comes across - most of which I could never get through, however, there is one I'd like to point out to you. I use it every time I present about the intervention software I represent since the best teaching practices are going to make a significant difference even after introducing technology solutions.

Michelle just sent an update of this out today (subject: "Teacher to Teacher Materials") and it contains at least one session that I know of that discusses ADHD and maybe ODD students. The Teacher to Teacher workshops are awesome and I've grabbed an excerpt from the "Differentiated Instruction" session - turned it into audio (since it would be too big in video format) and enclosed it for you.

You can download the entire session here - FOR FREE...:

http://www.paec.org/teacher2teacher/differentiatedinstruction.html

Be sure to surf around in here - there are LOADS of excellent PD videos of master teachers training each other on best practices. The concept is that you can download them (FOR FREE), ask a teacher to watch a particular one - who can then grab snippets to share with the team that pertain to your curriculum implementation.

Hope this helps!

There are several great sites on the web. I took a class that encouraged us to use the web to review articles and found a wealth of information.
