1. Policy on recess duty and lunch duty and any other expectations for supervision of students.
2. Policy on school hours and when teachers are expected to be classrooms.
3. How much time do elementary teachers have for planning when students are not in the room, i. e. art, music
4. Are there aides that assist in classrooms and do copying, etc.? What classrooms and how much time?
5. Policy on selling tickets and supervising at games.
I would be interested not only in policy, but in the actual amount of time that elementary teachers are assigned recess, noon duty, etc. I know everyone is busy this time of year, but the board has asked me to try to get information from other school districts. I would appreciate your responses. Feel free to respond personally to me or to call and share information over the telephone.
Thanks for your help.

1. My staff has morning and after school duty. Some are classroom teachers, some are aides, some are PE, music, etc. teachers.
2. Right now the aides and special teachers have noon and lunchroom duties. (The teachers have been having a 40 minute duty free lunch. I'm afraid that will be gone next year because of the cut in staff and programs.) Their lunch will be reduced to approximately 30 minutes.
3. The teachers have also a 40 minute planning period every day.
4. There are no aides, except for SPED.
5. All recess duties are rotated by classroom teachers.
6. Teachers are to be at school from 8:00 to 4:00 everyday except Friday. They may leave after the buses depart soon after 3:30.
7. Since we have a breakfast program that begins at 7:45 in the morning, I take all morning breakfast duties.

1. Each teacher has to do 1 lunchroom duty a week (they get free lunch this day) and one noon duty a week 30 minutes. In addition primary K-3 they have an additional 15 minute recess once a week. We go outside before school in which we have 2 aides and 1 teacher- every teacher has 1 week of before school duty for the year.
2. Teachers can choose a 8:00 to 4:00 schedule or a 7:40 to 3:40- it is in our policy we can keep them longer if it is curriculum work.
3. Planning - our teachers have 1 special a day- which may be 30 to 45 minutes a day depending on what it is (PE, Music, Guidance, Library, Art). On average teachers get 50 to 60 minutes planning per day- 30 minute noon recess + special. Next year our specials teachers will average 4 hours a week but will be pulled of duties due to the number of sections 25 possibly 26.
4. Kindergarten have 1/2 time aides - no other general aides. Our class sizes 18-23 average 20. We have assigned aides if class size is high 24-25.
5. Ticket takers and time keepers are paid 25.00 a night.

Preschool teachers - 2 sessions, AM kids start at 8:30 but early arrivals are in classrooms with teachers. 15 minute break for teacher and para during morning session, all duties are the responsibility of teacher and para. PM session starts at 12:00 with a 15 minute break. Monday through Thursday, Friday is planning day and home visit day.
K- teachers/aides cover all recesses. We have 2 people on duty. One teacher, one aide for 65 kids, lunch duty is covered by all staff, family style eating, all eat with the kids. The teachers have 30 minutes a day for specials that is their plan time, plus their time when they are not on recess duty. We have only a noon and afternoon recess, not a morning recess. We do have morning duty prior to the start of the school day. A teacher and an aide cover that. Aides cover the breakfast duty for about 30 kids. Teachers are responsible for getting their class on the bus and all have bus duty.
1-6th teachers cover the recess duty - Two teachers per grade level. Lunch duty is covered by teachers - One teacher per grade level. Hall duties, bus duties, and breakfast duties are assigned to all teachers and counselors on a rotating basis. Planning time is 30 minutes for a special and time when they are not assigned other duties.
Work day is 8:00-4:00, morning duties start at 8:00, school day is 8:30 -3:32. After school duties last about 5-10 minutes.

Deuel Policies and Procedures:
1. Teachers take the recess duty AM and PM recess, which amounts to each staff members having recess duty about 2-3 times per week. The noon recess duty is covered by teachers, aides and specials teachers, so all certified staff have only 1 noon duty per week.
2. It's just "understood" that teachers are to be at school from 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM. Teachers must be in their classroom by 8:10 AM as students are allowed in the building at that time.
3. Planning time--In addition to the 25 minutes of noon-free duty 4 days per week, my staff has from 1-2 specials per day, so probably about averages to about 50 minutes per day.
4. We ONLY use our aides for Title and SPED. They work in a pull-out situation or an in-class situation with students.
5. Any staff member that signs up to take tickets for at least one home activity is given 2 activity tickets for the year. Most take advantage of that, but some choose not to participate, thus, no activity tickets. Of course, because our board voted to go to a 4-day school week, all of the above are subject to change (Well, at least numbers 1, 2, and 3) Have a Good One!!

In Custer everyone does duty. Classroom teachers cover the am + pm recesses, aides cover lunch recess, Specials Teachers cover before and after school. We just rotate people. Everyone suffers.
School is in session from 7:50-3:35. Teachers are here from 7:30-4:00.
Planning is about 50 minutes a day. No aides for copying, etc. Title aides work with kids in classrooms and pull-out, about 40-50 minutes per class for Reading and 25-30 minutes for Math.
Staff get a season pass if they volunteer to take tickets.

Each teacher has recess duty 2 times a week. Bus duty and morning recess duty ( 10 minutes) is shared amongst the 2 special education aides and the elementary special education teacher.Lunchroom duty is done by the administration.
Teachers are expected to be in there rooms at 8:00. The bell rings at 8:15 to start class. Teachers work day is 8-4, except of Friday when they can leave after the buses pull out.
The only teacher assistants are in the resource room and work with students. There is no help for copying.
The certified staff does ticket sales at ball games - about 3 times a year. Non certified does not sell tickets. Game supervision is done by the AD and administration. Teachers are encouraged to stop any behaviors they notice also.
Planning time is 35 minutes of recess time if no duty. Music and PE alternate days but are the same time. Teachers get about 25-40 minutes of time depending on grade level. Grades 1-5 have art once a week by the HS teacher and that relives them for about 30 minutes

1. Policy on recess duty and lunch duty and any other expectations for
supervision of students. Our elementary teachers average 4 recess duties per
week (15 min each) One teacher has lunch duty each day and one of our aides has
the other lunch period each day.
2. Policy on school hours and when teachers are expected to be classrooms. The
teachers are to be here by 7:45 and are dismissed at 3:45.
3. How much time do elementary teachers have for planning when students are not
in the room, i. e. art, music
Art - 1-6 once per week for 45 min.
Computer - K-3 once per week for 30 min.
4& 5 twice per week for 45 min.
6th once per week for 45 min.
Library Skills - K-6 45 min per week
Music - K-3 twice a week for 30 min.
- 4-6 Twice a week for 45 min.
Physical Education K-3 twice a week for 30 min.
4-6 twice a week for 45 min.
Teachers receive a 30 minute duty free lunch period per day
4. Are there aides that assist in classrooms and do copying, etc.? What
classrooms and how much time? We have a volunteer who does copying for any of
the K-6 teachers. The teachers put their things in the teacher work room and the
volunteer comes in and does the copying. She comes in for one hour in the
morning and for one hour after school. Another lady works for us under a "greeen
thumb" type project. She comes in each morning until noon and also does copying
for the K-6 teachers. The teachers follow the same procedure with her as with
the volunteer.
5. Policy on selling tickets and supervising at games. Teachers are paid $20
each time they take tickets at a game. The only supervision at games they do is
to monitor the door they are at while selling tickets. The elementary teachers
are also paid $20 to supervise their students at our music concerts. (two per
year)
