Advance Kindergarten
We have a kindergarten student who is very advanced. One month into the
school year she tested out in reading at 2nd grade 6th month, and she is
very advanced in math also. We have all day-every day kindergarten and she is
very bored. We have moved her into first grade for reading, but that probably is
not enough. We could consider moving her into 2nd grade for reading, but you
start running into social adjustment issues. I am also aware of the state law
that says you must be 6 years old by Sept. 1st to enter first grade. I have to
believe that all of you have been in this situation before. Can you tell me what
you have done if you have faced a similar situation? Thanks!

There is a lot of research that indicates that advancing gifted students is usually in their best interest. I wouln't hesitate sending her to second grade for reading. We have the Challenge Center here and have skipped children from first to our second grade program.
